About Our Effort

Protecting Our Home

During my 20+ years on the island, we have enjoyed being a quiet community that has maintained a relationship with our neighbors and our environment with a strong interest in retaining a feel for "Old Florida" and providing our guests with an eco-friendly island of exceptional beaches and waterways along with great access to entertainment and services.

In recent years, our island has become significantly more popular and very visible both locally and internationally.  This attention has brought unprecedented issues and concerns to Holmes Beach.  These issues and their outcomes have demonstrated the critical need for professional and experienced leadership to respond to current and future issues.  I have responded to this call to action by humbly providing my lifelong experience in leadership and business to ensure that we don't lose this incredible paradise.  If elected to serve as your Mayor, I will provide an experienced, professional, and responsible leadership to guide our city government with the current and future issues being faced by our community of Holmes Beach.   This is what I feel is the most critical need and the most critical issue facing our community at this time.  I intend to ensure that with my leadership, our local government is seen as a viable, experienced, and professional organization that can provide options, innovation, and creative solutions to the issues facing our community now and in the future.

Our Top Issues

Several issues and community concerns face Holmes Beach at this time.  Our campaign is currently involved with efforts, information gathering, and solutions responding to many of these issues and concerns.  Below is a short list of our positions on several of our critical issues. My pledge is to continue to protect our homeland by serving as Mayor of Holmes Beach.

- Crisis Management Planning and Post-Storm Recovery

AMI has taken an unprecedented hit from Hurricane Helene and Milton.  These hurricanes have left a damaged and unrecognizable island in its wake.  As each island government took a different stance in preparation and recovery efforts, our campaign feels that Holmes Beach demonstrated the weakest and least effective response to both storms when compared with other areas.  While each crisis is handled differently based on leadership, I feel this is an area where we are most desperate.  With trash piling up, along with inefficient and ineffective planning and execution before and after the storms, Holmes Beach in particular has deeply suffered.  As a Special Forces Officer in the Florida Army National Guard in between my time in the US Army, I have been activated over two dozen times to serve as a leader in the State of Florida's response both in recovery and recon operations and in the State Emergency Operations Center.  This background, contacts, and experience would have been invaluable during this recent time of crisis for Holmes Beach.  I am offering this experience to Holmes Beach to ensure that our emergency response and crisis management is well planned and documented to ensure a coordinated response to future major emergencies.

- The Proposed Beachfront Parking Garage

Manatee County has proposed a beachfront parking garage along our most popular public beach.  Our campaign opposes this development as an unnecessary use of critical tax dollars that can be used on other projects throughout Manatee County.  This financial burden, along with the interruption of use of the beach during construction, as well as the countless environmental impacts of a shorefront construction of this scale makes our position of removing this proposal very likely based on early discussions with Manatee County lawmakers.

- The Proposed Consolidation of Island Government and Services

Manatee County has ordered a report to be provided showing statistical analysis and information with an interest in consolidating our 3 island governments as well as related services.  While our campaign opposes the consolidation proposal, we do understand that certain services and cooperation can be universally supported by all 3 governments to the benefit of all residents and visitors while providing a more responsible use of taxpayer funds. Our campaign intends to work cooperatively with our neighboring governments to provide a more efficient operation going forward.

- Stormwater Mitigation and Infrastructure Management

Historically Holmes Beach has spent countless funds on infrastructure projects and stormwater management that has created constant disruption along our roadways while still not providing a solution.  Our campaign realizes through our information gathering that several projects are necessary to maintain our current infrastructure but we feel  these ongoing and exhaustive efforts are not being appropriately executed or overseen to ensure that deadlines, results, and commitments are met.  We plan to pursue remedies for these historical and current contractual breaches while ensuring future projects are vetted and planned more appropriately to ensure modern engineering solutions are explored and long term solutions are created.  Additionally, we intend to be better stewards of taxpayer funds and ensure future efficiencies are built in based on past experience.

Task List

  • I plan to reorganize and engage directly with recovery operations post-storm.  I will continue operations that are working and turn off operations that are inefficient or not working.  I intend to use our emergency funds to rapidly deploy cleanup efforts and take a direct action in leading these efforts going forward until complete.  I have already (as a candidate) coordinated with local providers for debris collection and management to expedite our cleanup process.  They are poised and ready to execute when I take charge.  I will coordinate my efforts with our other island and county communities to ensure our services are performed professionally and rapidly.  This is critical and my personal first priority to get our community back online and operating for the residents and visitors.
  • I will work with our local providers for various recovery products and services to ensure that the best local providers are available to our residents for rebuilding, renovating, rehabilitation, and recovery of property and renourishment of our waterfront.  This will be a significant long term effort to build a coordinated and cohesive effort between service providers and government oversight to expedite recovery efforts.  This needs to be a priority in response to this immediate crisis period.  Priorities in permitting and enforcement need to be much more efficient and "resident recovery supportive" versus drawn out and disruptive.
  • I will create an emergency action standard operating procedure that can be followed and developed to ensure that our community government and first responders will have an immediate response to major emergencies.  This plan can be improved and cooperatively created with first responders and emergency services to ensure that it is an active, learning, and developing plan.  This will ensure that our government will have a rapid, predictable, and coordinated response that will include security plans, evacuation plans, and recovery contacts and operations that can be tested and improved to provide our residents with an assurance of their safety and security in the future.
  • I intend to continue to fight the proposed parking garage as a gross and unnecessary use of taxpayer funds.  I plan to engage environmental subject matter experts to prepare a report noting the impact to our wildlife and other environmental issues that would require additional funds to be added to any construction proposal as well as any setoffs or requirements that would significantly increase the cost of the proposed garage.  This would make it significantly more expensive demonstrating the true ultimate cost to the project as well as the negative impacts to Manatee County that would come with its construction.
  • I plan to review the efficiency survey related to consolidation and engage our neighbors to discuss an internal solution to potential shared services and support.
  • I intend to explore and apply for federal and state grants to support infrastructure improvements such as coastal hardening, power line burial, sewage and water improvements, and environmental projects.
  •  I intend to repair the relationships with our representatives in Manatee County as well as our state representatives to improve our communication and be more proactive about our plans for Holmes Beach as well as seeking a fair tax income sharing with Manatee County to go towards our municipal projects.  I further want to discuss the options for our freshwater pipe repair and plans for the Manatee Bridge.
  • I intend to engage with Bradenton Beach and Anna Maria to see if there are goods and services that we can share as well as potential cost sharing on future projects.  I intend to expand our communications to include them in a long term future plan for the island.
  • I intend to engage subject matter experts on infrastructure projects and storm preparation to support our access roads as well as our utilities and emergency services.  I plan to immediately explore modern engineering options such as earthworks, seawall planning, erosion control, and active pumping to provide solutions to our flooding problem which has now become a critical issue to the safety of our residents and visitors due to the failure of our current systems.  I plan to work to develop a 5 and 10 year plan for Holmes Beach improvements and support to our community.
  • I plan to initiate RFPs for sidewalk and multiuse paths to improve our safety and walkability for families and visitors while improving the walkability and beauty of our downtown areas.
  • I plan to investigate incentives for storeowners and commercial building owners to improve their frontage to make our downtown area more attractive and provide better services and support to our community as well as providing family friendly entertainment options.
  • I intend to investigate long term legal and commercial options to ensure that our height limitations are insured now and in the future. It is one of the great things that makes our island unique.
  • I plan to renovate the dog park to include trees, irrigation, and improvements of the existing seating area.
